I designed, constructed, and maintained front and backyard landscapes for my personal residence in Davis. I retrofitted the existing irrigation system by capping spray heads, replacing PVC pipe, adding polytubing with drip nozzles, adding drip valves and replacing old spray valves, and installing new spray heads and water efficient MP-Rotator spray nozels. I also installed and programmed a new Hunter Pro-C controller and Solar Sync sensor to irrigate the yards on an irrigation schedule.
In the backyard, I removed the lawn, cut back overgrown ivy, pruned up existing trees, removed dead plant material, fixed the back fence, and prepared the soil for planting by solarizing it and mixing in nutrient rich soil. I also created a fire pit with seating for 10-15 people. After several uses, I modified the fire pit to include a ring of CMU blocks to support an oven grill for outdoor cooking. Surrounding the fire pit, I planted assorted varieties of tomatoes, melons, grapes, strawberries, teas, herbs, and spices.
In the front yard, I removed overgrown plant matter, trimmed up existing shrubs, and aerated the soil. After preparing the soil, I planted California native plants including deer grass, sages, and purple needle grass.
I maintained both front and backyards by spreading compost, weeding, pruning, and planting additional specimens.
"546 L st is a modest residence with what was once a long neglected yard. When Daniel moved in, he was very enthusiatic about the potential to transform the yard into an inviting and useful space. Daniel was able to apply his landscape design skills and knowledge of plants to develop an overall landscape plan that was both creative and appropriate for the space. Of course having a plan and implementing it are two different things. Daniel's enthusiasm never wavered though, and with great attention to detail he methodically brought his vision to life. With each passing year the garden continues to mature, and the wisdom of the original design becomes more apparent. We will be enjoying it for many years to come. Thanks Daniel!" - Paul Lynch, Property Manager
